Overview

MusIQ ("we", "us", "the site") operates musiq.is. This page explains what information we collect when you visit, how it is used, and the third-party services involved. By using the site you agree to the practices described below.

Information we collect

MusIQ is a single-page musical ability test. We do not require you to create an account and we do not ask for personal information to take the test. The information we collect falls into three categories:

• Score submissions. If you choose to save your score to the public leaderboard, you enter a display name of your choice. That name, your numeric score, and the timestamp of submission are stored in our database. You are free to use a pseudonym; we do not verify identity.
• Pre-test answers. Before the test begins we ask two optional questions (whether you play an instrument and whether you are wearing headphones). These answers are only used in-browser to help contextualize your result and are not tied to any personal identifier.
• Analytics and ad data. Like most websites, we use third-party services (Google Analytics and Google AdSense) that collect standard technical information such as your IP address, browser type, device type, referring page, pages viewed, and interaction events. These services set cookies in your browser. See the next section for details.

Cookies and third-party services

MusIQ uses the following third-party services, which may set cookies or similar technologies on your device:

• Google Analytics — used to understand aggregate traffic patterns (page views, test completion rate, referral sources). Google Analytics does not identify you personally to us. You can opt out at any time by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
• Google AdSense — used to display rewarded-ad breaks. Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies (including the DoubleClick DART cookie) to serve ads based on your prior visits to this site and other sites on the internet. You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings or, for participating vendors, aboutads.info.

Most browsers let you block or delete cookies through their settings. Blocking cookies may degrade your experience on MusIQ (for example, ad rewards may not register correctly) but will not prevent you from taking the test.

How the information is used

The score and display name you submit are shown publicly on the leaderboard. Analytics data is used in aggregate to improve the site. Ad data is used by Google to serve relevant ads and measure ad performance. We do not sell, rent, or share your information with other third parties for marketing purposes.

Data retention

Leaderboard entries (name + score + date) are retained indefinitely so the leaderboard remains consistent over time. If you would like your entry removed, contact us at the address below and we will delete it. Analytics and ad-serving data are retained according to Google's own retention policies.

Children's privacy

MusIQ is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has submitted information to the site, contact us and we will remove it.

Your rights

You can request deletion of any leaderboard entry you submitted, ask what information we hold about you, or request correction of inaccurate information by emailing the address on our Contact page.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will reflect the most recent change. Continued use of the site after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
